CAADAC Forms Political Action Committee
Excerpt from FREEDOM September-October 2005
The California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors has opened a new chapter in its legislative history-the formation of its first Political Action Committee (PAC). The goal of the PAC will be to raise funding to support CAADAC's legislative agenda in California. From attending fund raisers for political campaigns of legislators who are supportive of CAADAC's goals, to educating members about the legislative process, the PAC budget will enhance CAADAC's legislative program by raising awareness of the issues facing counselors.
"I am glad to see this project becoming a reality," said CAADAC President, Warren Daniels. "Getting this committee up and fully funded has been a goal of my presidency which I have taken seriously."
In order to promote the new PAC, CAADAC's Executive Committee has provided several incentives to encourage members to get involved. PAC members will be given a special lapel pin that distinguishes their level of participation as PAC sponsors. In addition, the first 100 members to sign up at the $250 or above level will be honored guests at CAADAC's first CAADAC/PAC reception, held on Friday, October 7th at the San Francisco Ballroom during CAADAC's Annual Conference. They will also receive a free autographed copy of Key Note Speaker, Christopher Kennedy Lawford's book, Symptoms of Withdrawal, a Memoir of Snapshots and Redemption."
Tickets to the event will also be sold at a cost of $30 for individuals and $50 for couples, payable at the event (books may be purchased individually).
"I think CAADAC is ready for the next level," said Daniels. "When I've looked around at other successful membership associations, I always felt we were missing an important aspect of a true legislative program - PAC participation. Looking forward, it's a pretty exciting future for our organization."
CAADAC has consulted with its Lobbyist, Nick Medeiros and Certified Public Accountant/PAC Specialist, J. Richard Eichman, to ensure that all of California's political fundraising and reporting requirements are carefully followed. "We have great experts that have made it easy to understand how the political fundraising laws in California work," said Daniels. "Both our organization and its members are well advised and prepared to meet all requirements for PAC organization and reporting."
The CAADAC/PAC is a non-partisan political action committee dedicated to advancing the interests of CAADAC members and their clients and practices before the California Legislature. Its primary goals are to: build relationships with key members of the Legislature and their staffs, help pro-CAADAC individuals achieve or maintain office, compliment CAADAC's communications, educational and research objectives, support legislation conducive to CAADAC's goals and philosophies, sponsor events to assist members in learning more about the legislative process in California, and to provide opportunities for CAADAC members to attend political fund raisers.
To become a member of the CAADAC/PAC simply return the CAADAC/PAC application.
