Become an Approved Provider
The application and instructions for becoming an Approved Continuing Education Provider is now available electronically. This is for providers of continuing education ONLY; and is not to be used by colleges, universities and institutes for the purpose of providing certified (basic education) to prospective counselors.
A CAADAC Provider Number distinguishes your workshops from other non-approved providers. Agencies or entities who are not approved providers may only offer their courses for professional development hours, regardless their topic. Your provider number, therefore, is assurance that CAADAC counselors, CCS and CCPS will choose YOU first!
For your convenience, there are two categories of provider:
- Category 1 – Full Provider – allows the provider unlimited use of their provider number during a two year period. However, the number cannot be shared, nor can it be transferred to another agency. The fee for Full Provider is currently three hundred ($300) dollars. Two web link options are also available to Full Providers only, so please check these out.
- Category 2 – One-Time Use Provider – allows a provider one event per calendar year. Said event is limited to one week (40 continuing education hours) during a calendar year. Failure to follow provider guidelines for this category can result in refusal to approve future provider applications. The fee for One-Time Use Provider is fifty ($50) dollars.
So, we invite you to print out the application and instructions. Please read the entire booklet. It is important to remit specified course documentation along with your application and fee. Failure to do so may delay your approval as a provider. If you have a workshop or conference coming up in the immediate future, please submit your application at least FOUR (4) weeks prior to the event.
For you convenience you may also complete the application on-line, then print out and remit with course documentation and fee.
More Than You Ever Wanted To Know About CEH Provider Numbers...
R3N-85-020-0505
Cute little fella, that number … the one that is on the Certificate of Participation you receive at the completion of a workshop or seminar or conference. But that number and your understanding of it, can mean the difference between a smile and a frown when it comes time to renew your certification.
The first part of the number, in the illustration above, is R3N which indicates that the provider is located in that Region of CAADAC. Sometimes Region numbers stand alone such as 5. Out of state providers are OS.
The second part, 85 above, is the year the provider number was first issued. The third part usually means the provider is number 20 on the provider list for that Region (not a rank, just indicative of how many providers are in the region).
The final portion is what is vital to those who are renewing certification. The sample provider number above is actually that of Region 3 North Central Valley. The 0505 at the end indicates that their provider number is valid through May of 2005.
It is on me, the CAADAC counselor, to make sure that the provider number is current at the time of the training. For example, I will not be renewing my certification until January of next year so if my Region chose not to continue as a provider, I could use their trainings only through May of this year. The trainings still would count past that date, but they would be just like any other training that I took through a non-CAADAC provider: they would only be Professional Development Hours and not Advanced CEH’s. Of course, Regional provider numbers are automatically updated by the office so this scenario would never come to pass.
When I lived in Region 2 South there was a wonderful training I wanted to take but the provider number had expired two years before and they were not willing to bring it to current status. I was not willing to give up Advanced CEH’s. Oh, well!
Any questions? The CAADAC staff can always help with answers. But we as counselors are on the front line of making sure that the providers we use are not just sending out solicitations to a mailing list they paid for years ago. We help insure they are current.
And do remember, if you want to attend a workshop ask the office if it is being audited. If it isn’t and hasn’t been recently, you can audit at no charge to you. As an auditor you would attend and then give feedback on the workshop to the office which would in turn share it with the provider. Just another way to insure that the quality of our providers is up to our standards… and get some economical CEH’s for you.
And a Happy, CEH-filled Year to us all!
